Keeping the cost down
- Fresh plaster needs a mist coat before painting — allow 5–14 days to dry.
- Clear the room completely; plasterers charge for moving furniture.
- One plasterer covers roughly 40–60 m² of skim a day.
Common questions
- Can I paint straight onto new plaster?
- No. Use a watered-down mist coat first, or the topcoat will peel.
- Skim or re-board?
- If the existing plaster is blown or hollow-sounding, boarding is cheaper long-term than repeated patching.
